To me, moving UBC firmly in a more sustainable direction is a win-win-win situation for the University. It is a win academically, a win for the community, and a win financially. The fourth winner will of course be our planet, and all those that share a common existence on it. By leveraging our immense human, natural, academic, and financial resources towards the common goal of building a sustainable future, the possibilities for change are immense and very exciting!

--Freda Pagani, Director, Sustainability, Land and Building Services UBC, 1998

Humanity has the ability to make development sustainable-to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
