Funding Opportunities

Energy Innovators Plus
The Energy Innovators Initiative is a voluntary, national, energy efficiency program designed to encourage corporations, institutions and municipalities to improve the energy efficiency of their facilities. Established by National Resources Canada in 1992 in response to the federal government's commitment to stabilize greenhouse gas emissions, its mandate is to promote energy efficiency in large organizations across Canada. The Initiative is guided by the fact that greater energy efficiency is economically beneficial to its participants and environmentally beneficial to the country. It reinforces the link between good business practices and sound environmental policies.

Seismic Mitigation Program
The Ministry of Education is administering a $1.5 billion Seismic Mitigation Program for BC schools. It is funding both the structural and non-structural seismic upgrades of schools in the areas of the province most likely to experience a severe earthquake.

It may be advantageous for school districts to combine retrofit projects with seismic upgrading projects, for example, combining a lighting retrofit to reduce energy consumption with the seismic measure of tying back new or upgraded light fixtures.
